EDM is mainly used for the production of holes and cavities in the production of molds. It has become the dominant processing method in the mold manufacturing industry and has promoted the technological progress of the mold industry. When the number of EDM parts is less than 3,000, it is more economical than die stamping parts. According to the characteristics and purposes of the relative movement of tools and workpieces in the process, EDM can be broadly divided into: EDM, EDM, EDM, EDM, Non-metal EDM Processing and EDM surface hardening.
1. EDM forming process
In this method, the tool electrode is moved relative to the workpiece, and the shape and size of the workpiece electrode are duplicated on the workpiece so as to process the required parts. It includes EDM cavity machining and punching processing. EDM cavity processing is mainly used for processing various types of hot forging die, die casting die, extrusion die, plastic die and bakelite film cavity. EDM machining is mainly used for the machining of holes (round holes, square holes, polygonal holes, irregular holes), curved holes (curved holes, spiral holes), small holes and micro holes. In recent years, in order to solve the problems of small electrode cross-section, easy deformation, large depth-to-diameter ratio of holes, difficulty in chip removal and other issues in the processing of small holes, high-speed small-hole machining has been developed in EDM processing, and good social and economic benefits have been achieved.
2. WEDM cutting
The method uses a moving thin metal wire as a tool electrode to perform pulse discharge cutting according to a predetermined trajectory. According to the speed of wire electrode movement, it can be divided into high-speed wire cutting and low-speed wire cutting. Our country generally adopts high-speed wire cutting. In recent years, we are developing low-speed wire cutting. When wires are taken at high speed, the wire electrode is a high-strength molybdenum wire with a diameter of φ0.02 to φ0.3 mm. The reciprocating speed is 8 to 10 m/s. . In the low-speed wire drawing, copper wire is mostly used, and the wire electrode moves at a low speed of less than 0.2 m/s in a single direction. During wire cutting, the electrode wire moves continuously and its loss is small, so the machining accuracy is high. The average machining accuracy can reach 0.01mm, which is much higher than EDM machining. Surface roughness Ra up to 1.6 or less. EDM has the following characteristics: It can process any high-strength, high-hardness, high-toughness, high-brittleness, and high-purity conductive materials; it has no obvious mechanical force during processing and is suitable for machining low-rigid workpieces and fine structures: pulse parameters can be based on Need to be adjusted, rough machining, semi-finishing and finishing machining can be performed on the same machine tool; pits appearing on the surface after EDM machining are conducive to oil storage and noise reduction; production efficiency is lower than cutting; discharge process is partially The energy is consumed on the tool electrode, causing electrode wear and affecting the forming accuracy. Domestic and foreign CNC electric wire EDM machines have adopted different levels of microcomputer numerical control systems, which realizes the digital control of WEDM. Currently, WEDM is widely used to process various blanking dies (for punching and blanking), templates, and various shapes of complex holes, profiles, and narrow slits.
