Discovery
In 1943, the Soviet scholar Lazaletenko studied the invention of EDM and developed rapidly with the improvement of pulse power supply and control systems. The initial pulse power used was a simple resistor-capacitor loop.

Development process
the 50's
Improvements are resistance-inductor-capacitance circuits. At the same time, a so-called long pulse power supply such as a pulse generator is also used to increase the erosion efficiency and reduce the relative loss of the tool electrode.
Subsequently, high-frequency pulsed power supplies such as high-power electron tubes and thyratrons emerged, which increased the productivity under the same surface roughness conditions.

the 60's
Transistors and thyristor pulsed power sources have emerged, which have improved energy efficiency and reduced tool electrode losses, and have expanded the adjustable range of rough finishes.

the 70's
High- and low-voltage composite pulses, multi-loop pulses, constant-amplitude pulses, and adjustable waveform pulses have emerged, and new advances have been made in the processing of surface roughness, processing accuracy, and reduction of tool electrode losses. In terms of the control system, from the beginning, simply maintaining the discharge gap and controlling the advancing and retreating of the tool electrode gradually developed into the use of a microcomputer and timely controlled various factors such as electrical parameters and non-electrical parameters.
