According to the form of the tool electrode and the relative motion between the tool and the workpiece, EDM machining can be divided into five categories:
1. EDM forming processing for simple feed movement relative to the workpiece using the forming tool electrode;
2. Using the axially moving metal wire as the tool electrode, the workpiece is moved in a desired shape and size to make a trajectory movement to cut the electric discharge wire cutting of the conductive material;
3. The use of wire or shaped conductive grinding wheel as a tool electrode for small hole grinding or forming grinding EDM grinding;
4. EDM conjugate rotary machining for thread ring gauges, thread plug gauges, gears, etc.
5. Hole processing, engraving, surface alloying, surface hardening and other types of processing.
